Looking Ahead

Monday, August 6, 2012 by Joseph Agbi Leave a Comment

Looking Ahead! [Author: Esther Agbi]
Luke 9:62
And Jesus said unto him, No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God.

The London 2012 Olympics is in section while writing this article. All the various sporting activities are interesting to me ,even the sporting events I did not know had been accepted as Olympic sports such as Karate, Judo, Trampolin, just to mention a few! Most interesting to me are the individual sports that require speed like swimming, track race, cycling. e.t.c.

I always watch such sporting events with great interest. I observe that the athletes are physically fit and ready mentally for the event. Years of practice, training and discipline must have gone into their preparedness.

There is always a kind of tenseness when the umpire says on your marks! Hearts racing ,different thoughts going through the mind such as am I going to succeed, are there others better than myself or have I wasted my time all these while preparing for the Olympics.? That brings me back to a picture I took recently while on vacation.

I posed as one boxing! A friend asked, why are you in this posture? I quickly replied in a joking manner that I was preparing for Olympics 2016. I was laughing out loud while responding to that question. This is because I knew that at that level of preparedness, I am going nowhere near the Olympics as an athlete, most probably as a spectator. My husband also laughed out loud because he knows that I am not even an athlete not to mention qualifying for the Olympics!

Coming back to our passage, as Christians, once committed to follow Christ, it is not good or befitting or even beneficial to look towards the back. We are in a race, a heavenly one at that matter.

Situations make some Christians to look back especially when going through difficult circumstances, disappointments, failures and the like .I pray that the Spirit of God would comfort and uplift anyone going through unpalatable circumstances.

When the umpire fires the gun in the air and says “GO” simultaneously, the athlete moves with speed, obeying the rules of the sport. Why? I believe because he has a goal! A medal is at stake, gold, silver or bronze. If this were not the case, he would not have appeared for the competition. If the athlete who is looking for an earthly reward or fame can subject himself to such stringent rules and no small discipline, how much more Christians aspiring to have a heavenly reward.

Some of these races are won by fractions of hundreds of a second. Just enough time to blink the eyes, that tells you how close. As I watch closely the cycling event, two athletes were neck to neck ,very close to the mark. Suddenly, one looked back and lost time. The other over took him and won the gold medal!

The Lord will help us always to look ahead that we may obtain the reward in Jesus name.
Your time spent serving the Lord shall not be in vain. You will reach the mark and obtain the prize.

Prayer Point
Oh Lord, strengthen me as I focus on heaven and heaven alone with the cross before me and the world behind me in Jesus name.

WHY GOD LOVED DAVID

WHY GOD LOVED DAVID

BY DAVID AGBI

INTRODUCTION

God loved David so, so much because he was a man after God’s heart. God also loved David right back. So there was a lot of bonding between the two. David would do anything God said and God blessed him. This lesson will help you to go after God’s heart in Jesus Name.

OUTLINES:
PRAISES TO GOD
GLORIFIED GOD
GOD CAN LOVE AND BLESS YOU TOO

PRAISES TO GOD

David sang praises to God whenever he could and that’s one reason God loved David. He didn’t just sing when he was in trouble or when something bad was happening. He sang all the time. Also, he praised God so much, it became a habit and God blessed him so much to the extent that he became king over Judah and eventually, over Israel. If he can find time to praise God we can too because He made us in His own image [Gen. 1:26-31].

GLORIFIED GOD

David would glorify God all the time. He built temples for the people of Israel to worship God and made sacrifices to Him. It didn’t end there. He would give glory to God in every situation, even the bad ones. God blessed David for that and gave him strength to take over cities like Zion and Jerusalem and made them to be cities of God, not for himself. He didn’t hesitate if God said something and defeated any people that were in his way to do what God said [1 Sam. 17: 40-58]. God loved him so much for that too.

GOD CAN LOVE AND BLESS YOU TOO

God can bless you too if you praise Him and give glory to Him. God loved David and He can love you too if you did what David did. He praised God, built temples, glorified Him and did whatever God told him to do. If you do what David did, God will give David’s blessings to you and will help you in any thing you need help with.

CONCLUSION

David was a man after God’s heart and that’s what God liked about David. If you do what David did, God will bless you. So don’t just stand there! Go out and let people know there is a God that is alive!

Stir up the Gift of God That is in You

Saturday, August 6, 2011 by Joseph Agbi Leave a Comment

Stir up the Gift of God That is in You

When somebody has a gift and it is not used, it becomes lost. Instead of excellence, mediocrity sets in. In the parable of the talents, Jesus said the person with one gift that did not use it; the gift will be taken away and given to the person that used his gift to profit the Kingdom of God. God has endowed every person with one ability or the other. In the body of Christ, there are many gifts we can key ourselves into. When you have a coal fire except you fan it continuously, it quenches. God says do not quench the embers of fire of the Spirit. In 2 Tim. 1:5-7, the apsotel Paul addressing Timothy(Paul’s son in the faith) said :

5When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. 6Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. 7For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Also in Rom. 12:3-8, Paul addressing the Romans said,
3For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. 4For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: 5So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. 6Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; 7Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; 8Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

You either stir up the gift you have or it becomes extinguished. Many things can cause you to experience decline in your spiritual life. They include the love of the world, lust of the eyes and lust of the flesh. The Holy Spirit is grieved when we interrupt His move in our lives by our careless living. Paul speaking to the Thessalonians, said, 19Quench not the Spirit [1 Thess. 5:19].

Rather than quenching the spirit we should quench the work of Satan. How does somebody quench the Spirit or how do people reduce the embers of fire we have for God’s work? By ignoring Him, that is, ignoring His promptings; not paying attention to your spiritual life; not being led by the spirit; leading a carnal life; following after the works of the flesh; not living in love; and being slack spiritually. There are so many ways. What we should be quenching are the works of the enemy, that is, arrows of the enemy fired at us or targeted at other believers to instigate their downfall.

Eph. 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Prayer for Spiritual Empowerment
1. Every arrow of the wicked fired at my spirit, be extinguished.

Good and Bad Conscience

GOOD AND BAD CONSCIENCE:

BY

DAVID AGBI

Text: Matt. 4:1-11

INTRODUCTION

There are 2 types of conscience in your body. Those are the good and bad conscience. The good conscience listens to God and the bad one listens to the devil. Imagine you are falling off a building. Something is holding you back and that is your good conscience. At the same time something is pushing you forward. That is your bad conscience. It is left there for you, but which one will you choose? It is a tough choice. Let this study give you some tips in Jesus’ name. Amen.

Deliverance Teaching:True Prosperity

Deliverance Teaching: True Prosperity
2Beloved, I wish above all things that thou mayest prosper and be in health, even as thy soul prospereth. [3 John:2 KJV]

Other References: Proverbs10:22 The blessing of the LORD, it maketh rich, and he addeth no sorrow with it.

God desires our souls prosper. Prosperity is not a once-for-all step into wealth be they material, financial or otherwise. True prosperity is steady progress in the spirit. Your soul is the covering for your spirit. Your soul is the first contact point by the spirit world. Celestial (angels) or terrestrial spirits (powers of darkness and demons) do not directly relate with your body as they are not physical beings, just like we relate with other humans on the surface, what we can see-our senses.

Once evil spirits have kept a man’s soul bound, they [Read more…] about Deliverance Teaching:True Prosperity
