The Excellent Wisdom of Solomon

Friday, July 20, 2012 by Joseph Agbi Leave a Comment

Solomon was a very wise king. Of his wisdom Jesus commended that there was no king as wise as Solomon [Luke 11:31; Matt 6:28-30]. Divinely inspired, he wrote the book of Proverbs, a goldmine of wisdom nuggets, and later in life in what appears to be progressive repentance after living a life of unbriddled passions and the pursuit of vanities, he had enough inspiration to write the book of Ecclesiastes. Other kings from foreign lands came to seek the king’s counsel.

How did Solomon get this excellent wisdom? He asked God for it in visions of the night! In his quiet moment with God, he was given the choice to ask for anything. Solomon asked for one thing: wisdom and understanding to judge the people aright. God was so pleased with his singular choice that He also blessed Solomon with riches and honour in addition to his wisdom, promising Solomon a long life based on continued obedience [1 Kings 3:5-13].

29And God gave Solomon wisdom and understanding exceeding much, and largeness of heart, even as the sand that is on the sea shore. 30And Solomon’s wisdom excelled the wisdom of all the children of the east country, and all the wisdom of Egypt. 31For he was wiser than all men;………… 32And he spake three thousand proverbs; and his songs were a thousand and five. 33And he spake of trees, from the cedar tree that is in Lebanon even unto the hyssop that springeth out of the wall: he spake also of beasts, and of fowl, and of creeping things, and of fishes. 34And there came of all people to hear the wisdom of Solomon, from all kings of the earth, which had heard of his wisdom [1 Kings 4:29-34].

From the above Scriptures, you need wisdom and understanding from God to live and enjoy success spiritually and in other aspects of life. God enlarged Solomon’s heart and planted His wisdom into it, that is, there was nothing his heart could not fathom. That is the type of largeness of heart you and I need, not the one filled with stress accentuated by the vanities of life. He exceeded in wisdom than other kings around him and all other people. Solomon sought after wisdom with all his heart and got it. He chose the right thing and his request pleased God [1 Kings 3:5-14]. Recommending his wise choice to everyone, he wrote in Prov. 4:7, Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.

Solomon advocated for his blessings, using the covenant God had with David to facilitate his plea. God had committed Himself to fulfilling the covenant He had with David and when He found that Solomon had the right heart, He included the blessings of prosperity and peace that Solomon did not ask for but nevertheless would make Solomon’s reign as king most comfortable.

Is the blessing of divine wisdom Solomon had superior to that you and I have from God today. No! Because Jesus is greater than Solomon in wisdom and in all respects as a member of the godhead and He is our advocate before God the Father in heaven. Through His shed blood on the cross, He made a covenant with the Father on our behalf. You and I have the singular opportunity to ask God for anything in the name of Jesus. Jesus said if you ask God for anything in His name God the Father will do it for you [John 14:12-14]. That requires faith, a necessary and sufficient condition to claim your blessings. Your faith is the spiritual catalyst which activates the word of God for you. If your faith is dormant, you will not receive anything from God. The blessings may have been released in the spiritual but your faith is required to call them into reality.

Note that only those things asked in the name of Jesus, that is, those things asked in line with the will of God, would be responded to by God. Otherwise your prayers will not be answered. The name of Jesus is the “master key” to God’s heart. Because Jesus is the Son of God whom He loved dearly and yet sent Him to die for us, God responds to the earnest prayer of anyone who comes to Him by faith. Solomon asked for wisdom to govern the people and that his heart would learn to distinguish and choose right from wrong. God filled Solomon’s heart with wisdom but ours in Christ is fuller in breadth, depth and height if we ask by faith, and the revelation of that knowledge was Paul’s prayer for the Ephesian Christians [Eph. chapter 1]. Ask for an influx of God’s wisdom into your heart through Christ today and you will have His excellent wisdom that is superior to Solomon’s. Isn’t that a superior priviledge!

Prayer Points
1. Lord, give me largeness of heart filled with your wisdom and understanding in the name of Jesus.

2. Oh Lord, saturate my heart with your Spirit of excellence; grant me understanding in all things in the name of Jesus.

3. Oh Lord, make me a blessing to my generation and the generations after in the name of Jesus.

Stir up the Gift of God That is in You

Saturday, August 6, 2011 by Joseph Agbi Leave a Comment

Stir up the Gift of God That is in You

When somebody has a gift and it is not used, it becomes lost. Instead of excellence, mediocrity sets in. In the parable of the talents, Jesus said the person with one gift that did not use it; the gift will be taken away and given to the person that used his gift to profit the Kingdom of God. God has endowed every person with one ability or the other. In the body of Christ, there are many gifts we can key ourselves into. When you have a coal fire except you fan it continuously, it quenches. God says do not quench the embers of fire of the Spirit. In 2 Tim. 1:5-7, the apsotel Paul addressing Timothy(Paul’s son in the faith) said :

5When I call to remembrance the unfeigned faith that is in thee, which dwelt first in thy grandmother Lois, and thy mother Eunice; and I am persuaded that in thee also. 6Wherefore I put thee in remembrance that thou stir up the gift of God, which is in thee by the putting on of my hands. 7For God hath not given us the spirit of fear; but of power, and of love, and of a sound mind.

Also in Rom. 12:3-8, Paul addressing the Romans said,
3For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith. 4For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office: 5So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another. 6Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith; 7Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching; 8Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.

You either stir up the gift you have or it becomes extinguished. Many things can cause you to experience decline in your spiritual life. They include the love of the world, lust of the eyes and lust of the flesh. The Holy Spirit is grieved when we interrupt His move in our lives by our careless living. Paul speaking to the Thessalonians, said, 19Quench not the Spirit [1 Thess. 5:19].

Rather than quenching the spirit we should quench the work of Satan. How does somebody quench the Spirit or how do people reduce the embers of fire we have for God’s work? By ignoring Him, that is, ignoring His promptings; not paying attention to your spiritual life; not being led by the spirit; leading a carnal life; following after the works of the flesh; not living in love; and being slack spiritually. There are so many ways. What we should be quenching are the works of the enemy, that is, arrows of the enemy fired at us or targeted at other believers to instigate their downfall.

Eph. 6:16 Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.

Prayer for Spiritual Empowerment
1. Every arrow of the wicked fired at my spirit, be extinguished.

God’s Promises

Sunday, January 9, 2011 by Joseph Agbi Leave a Comment

GOD’S PROMISES AND PROMISES AND PROMISES AND…, AND BLESSINGS

FAITH CONFESSION:

“And I will restore to you the years that the locust hath eaten, the cankerworm, and the caterpillar, and the palmerworm, my great army which I sent among you. And ye shall eat in plenty, and be satisfied, and praise the name of the Lord your God, that hath dealt wondrously with you: and my people shall never be ashamed” [Joel 2:25-26].

“I will open rivers in high places, and fountains in the midst of the valleys: I will make the wilderness a pool of water, and the dry land springs of water. I will plant in the wilderness the cedar, the shittah tree, and the myrtle, and the oil tree; I will set in the desert the fir tree, and the pine, and the box tree together: That they may see, and know, and consider, and understand together, that the hand of the LORD hath done this, and the Holy One of Israel hath created it” [Isaiah. 41:18-20]

Have you made a promise and failed in the past to keep your promise to someone? Some people make promises and try to keep their word. It is a good virtue and you should improve on keeping your promises. However, if you have promised someone in the past and failed the person, maybe a loved one, do not give up trying to be noted as one who is good at fulfilling promises to others. When someone consistently faults in keeping promises, people call him a liar. Human frailty makes us to fault in keeping promises but if you are a person of your words people will consistently believe you [Psalm 15]. So keep trying to keep your promises. Rest For Your Soul and Body

Rest For Your Soul and Body

Rest For Your Soul and Body

28Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28, KJV

28Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls. Matthew 11:28, Amplified

Other References: [Gen 2:2-3; Ex 20:8-11; Ex 23:12; Heb 4:1-11, 1 Peter 5:7]

We have a most revealing statement concerning the Sabbath. The Sabbath is a 7th-day completion cycle which God designed solely as a day of rest. No work was to be done and in Israel, neither animal were to be burdened. The Oxen, Donkeys and Servants were to be rested. The sole purpose was to be refreshed. Note that God detests all forms of laziness, which is a discussion for another day. He worked in 6 days creating the heaven and earth (Genesis chapter 1) and designed the human body to be refreshed by periods of rest. That is why after tedious months of work we must take out time for vacations. It is not only cultural but more importantly of immense spiritual benefit. In the case of the Sabbath, it is a day to be spent in communion with him and rest for your bodies, soul and spirit (Exodus 20:8-11). [Read more…] about Rest For Your Soul and Body

Bible Nuggets 0228/2010

BIBLE NUGGETS 0228/2010 [Jude v3 KJV]

CONFLICT [ III ]

Jude v 3 KJV

3Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints.

Faith in Jesus is the common salvation available to all men. If you have received him, you are on his side. The side of Jesus is the winning team. However there is a contending team in conflict with the team of Jesus. The head of that team is Satan and his team is the losing side. As a saint of God, defend the goalpost of Jesus. Angels, the blood of Jesus, the name of Jesus, the word of God provide fortification for the goalpost so the enemy remains always defeated. This is not the case of the better team wins. Jesus is the winner because it was settled on the cross of Calvary for you and me. So contend for the faith and God will give you the divine strength to play your path in the team of Jesus. The gates of hell cannot prevail against the church. Praise God.

Colossians 2:14-15 KJV

14Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;

15And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.

WARFARE PRAYER

1.       I prevail over every principality and power raging against me in the name of Jesus. I take all the enemy’s territory for Jesus in Jesus Name.

 2.      I conquer the enemy.  I command every foothold of the enemy on my life and the life of my loved ones to be amputated in Jesus Name. Amen.
