CHRIST OUR PASSOVER LAMB [ I ]

Living Bread Nugget 1115 [Exodus 12:1-14; 1 Corinthians 5:7-8]

Origin of the Passover

The Passover was instituted by God himself as a final solution to the deliverance of the children of Israel from their taskmasters, who had kept them in a prison without walls for nearly 400 years. The Webster’s dictionary defines it as the Jewish spring festival commemorating the liberation of the children of Israel from slavery. It was held from the 7th day to the 21st day of the month Abib, the first month in the Jewish calendar [i.e. March – April in the Gregorian calendar, today’s universal calendar]. God himself pronounced it as the beginning of months for the liberation of Israel from slavery. It was their own freedom festival. They had to be delivered before they would have privilege of granting freedom to others. The Passover involved animal sacrifice, each family or a family group was to use a Lamb without blemish. It became an annual memorial after the events of Ex 12. In the plan of God for salvation, the Passover is a typology of the sacrifice of Christ for our sins and deliverance from the enemy of our souls, the devil.

Exodus 12:1-2

1And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in the land of Egypt saying,

2This month shall be unto you the beginning of months: it shall be the first month of the year to you.

A lamb was the animal of choice for sacrifice. Their blood was valuable in cleansing the sins of the people, because without the shedding of blood there can be no remissions for sins [Heb 9:22]. Why the choice of a young lamb? Why not a mature sheep or goat, which to the human sense seems to be the right thing to do? Young lambs are at peace even if they are on their way to the butcher’s table. A lamb sheep or goat at infancy, only a year old would bleat, but their bleating is that of submission. They are totally at the mercy of the owner. The sprinkling of the blood of a clean animal was sufficient in purifying the flesh of sins in the Old Testament. [Heb 9:13].

Instructions from God on the Passover

Read the account for yourself in Exodus 12:3-14

3Speak ye unto all the congregation of Israel, saying, In the tenth day of this month they shall take to them every man a lamb, according to the house of their fathers, a lamb for an house:  4And if the household be too little for the lamb, let him and his neighbour next unto his house take it according to the number of the souls; every man according to his eating shall make your count for the lamb.  5Your lamb shall be without blemish, a male of the first year: ye shall take it out from the sheep, or from the goats:  6And ye shall keep it up until the fourteenth day of the same month: and the whole assembly of the congregation of Israel

shall kill it in the evening.  7And they shall take of the blood, and strike it on the two side posts and on the upper door post of the houses, wherein they shall eat it.  8And they shall eat the flesh in that night, roast with fire, and unleavened bread; and with bitter herbs they shall eat it.  9Eat not of it raw, nor sodden at all with water, but roast with fire; his head with his legs, and with the purtenance thereof.  10And ye shall let nothing of it remain until the morning; and that which remaineth of it until the morning ye shall burn with fire.  11And thus shall ye eat it; with your loins girded, your shoes on your feet, and your staff in your hand; and ye shall eat it in haste: it is the LORD’s passover.  12For I will pass through the land of Egypt this night, and will smite all the firstborn in the land of Egypt, both man and beast; and against all the gods of Egypt I will execute judgment: I am the LORD.  13And the blood shall be to you for a token upon the houses where ye are: and when I see the blood, I will pass over you, and the plague shall not be upon you to destroy you, when I smite the land of Egypt.  14And this day shall be unto you for a memorial; and ye shall keep it a feast to the LORD throughout your generations; ye shall keep it a feast by an ordinance for ever.

Some points as it relates to this scriptural passage are:

1.     Every soul was to be accounted for in the sacrifice. A lamb for a family or part thereof if the family is too small to consume the lamb in one night [v3-4]

2.     The lamb was to be without blemish, a sheep or a goat not over a year old [v5].

3.     All families were to kill their lambs at an appointed day and in the evening and the blood was used as an Identity by marking doorposts [v6-7].

4.     The flesh should be eaten roasted not raw with bitter herbs, and waste should be burned with fire [v7-10].

5.     They were to eat it in haste and ready to leave Egypt in a hurry.

6.     God himself was going to do the separation of the living from the dead by way of the Passover, the blood of the Lamb being the token or cover from the divinely sanctioned death [v11b-v12].

7.     The Passover is a memorial, an ordinance forever [v14]

So we see that the Passover was a very important biblical covenant [Ex 12 v 1- 14 a] of the deliverance from Egypt.  God himself made this plan for their redemption, not Moses — it is the LORD’s Passover V11b.  In our next nugget we see how this covenant relates to the eternal covenant we now have, a perfect covenant secured by the blood of Jesus compared to this Passover in Ex 12 secured by animal sacrifice.

Prayer of Faith

Lord thank you for freedom and liberty from the slave market of sin. Thank you for liberating my soul from bondage. Let the precious blood of the Lamb cleanse me and make me every wit whole. I make my heart an altar of sacrifice to you in Jesus Name. Amen.

WISDOM SERIES: WISDOM OF THE CROSS (IV)

[Bible Nuggets 1101 Rev 12:9]

9And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.

The devil is still the Old serpent and its final destiny is Hell Fire

The serpent caused the total depravity of man. When Adam and Eve sinned, man took on the nature of the “serpent”, instead of the nature of God in which he was created because he agreed and sided with the devil in thought, word and action. The devil became his god. The devil came as an ‘angel of light’ to beguile [deceive, trick, entice, tempt, lure] man away from Jehovah God Almighty.

If you have already accepted Jesus and you are a Christian, you are innocent before God. You must strive to keep you garment white as snow. Plead the blood of Jesus on yourself daily; be washed in the blood of the lamb. Every crimson stain will be washed from your heart. Paul warning the Corinthian Christians said”.

2 Cor 11:3

3But I fear, lest by any means, as the serpent beguiled Eve through his subtilty, so your minds should be corrupted from the simplicity that is in Christ.

Hold unto your faith tenaciously. Do not trade it for a morsel of meal. The final destiny of the devil is hell fire.

Rev 20:2-3

2And he laid hold on the dragon, that old serpent, which is the Devil, and Satan, and bound him a thousand years,

3And cast him into the bottomless pit, and shut him up, and set a seal upon him, that he should deceive the nations no more, till the thousand years should be fulfilled: and after that he must be loosed a little season.

Even now the Devil is already judged in the Believer’s Life

Judgment has already been passed on the devil, and as a child of God you have the honour and privilege from the Lord to execute this judgment perpetually on Satan. Claim the promise and see yourself in Christ as set on the throne of judgment over the devil (we are seated with Christ in heavenly places over principalities and powers), and command all his works in your life, over your family and every evil influence of his to be destroyed. Loose the judgment of God on his demons and all the powers of darkness. Rule over the enemy, his works and over all his allies with a rod of iron. This is your heritage in Christ.

John 12:31 Now is the judgment of this world: now shall the prince of this world be cast out.

Conclusion

How do you see Jesus? Do you regard him as your messiah? God made full provision for your salvation by sending His Son to die for your sins and mine. Do you regard or accept this as a solution to your reconciliation with your maker? The wisdom of God through the death of Christ is to them who are lost foolishness but unto us who are saved it is the power of God. God is wiser than you and me that is why he thought this as the way out to reconcile man who was created in His image back to Himself. Come to Jesus today and live. Do not die in your sins by allowing that old serpent the devil to lord and rule over you. Repent today and become a member of the family of God. If you saved you will rejoice in the scripture below because you know what those in the world do not know or have.

1 Corinthians 1:18

18For the preaching of the cross is to them that perish foolishness; but unto us which are saved it is the power of God.

Prayer Points

1.     I dethrone every power of the enemy over my life, my family and over every thing that concerns me in the mighty Name of Jesus.

2.     Satan, you are under my feet. Remain crushed under my feet. You will remain there perpetually until Jesus comes and you are hurled to hell fire in Jesus Name.

WISDOM SERIES: WISDOM OF THE CROSS (III)

[Bible Nuggets 1031 Heb 12:2-4]

Heb 12:2-4

2Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.

3For consider him that endured such contradiction of sinners against himself, lest ye be wearied and faint in your minds.

4Ye have not yet resisted unto blood, striving against sin.

Who do you want to emulate? Behold the glory of Jesus. That is the way you truly live and become reconciled to God. The more of Jesus we have in us, the more of God’s glory you have. Jesus stripped himself of all the glories of heaven to dwell among us to redeem man; hence no one can regard his situation as hopeless. This is why for example suicide is wrong which is common in North America because Jesus has paid it all. Look unto Jesus the author and finisher of your faith.  If you see someone who is suicidal, tell them “Look unto Jesus and live”.

Jesus testifying of himself and the cross before him said in John 3:14 -16

14And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness; even so must the Son of man be lifted up:

15That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.

16For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

Typology of the Cross by Moses

Moses made a typology of the cross, the victory of the cross over the serpent that had bitten any person who sinned in the camp of the children of Israel in the wilderness. Adam and Eve were “bitten” by the serpent the day they fell and became subject to the law of sin and death.  That old serpent, the devil the bible says will finally be destroyed someday by the wrath of God in Hell Fire. Lets read the account of how Moses saved the those children of Israel who looked by faith on the remedy he provided for their sins.

Num 21:8-9

8And the LORD said unto Moses, Make thee a fiery serpent, and set it upon a pole: and it shall come to pass, that every one that is bitten, when he looketh upon it, shall live.

9And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived.

The children of Israel had murmured to Moses for lack of bread and water.

5And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread.

They did not lack bread and water. They only had unbelief that they lacked. They should have trusted God as long as they see Moses holding the staff of authority and power. That staff could make anything in the wilderness. They were walking through the valleys and plains of the shadow of death because they actually had enemies lined up ob the way to the promise land.

No matter what we are going through in terms of our physical need, God’s provision is abundant to supply. Remove your eyes from the problem and look at the word of God

Psalm 23 v4

4Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me.

Phil 4:19

19But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.

They missed the point because Jesus is the bread of life as we connect this with the other 2 scripture Num 21:8-9, John 3:14-16 and John 6:35

35And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

The water represents the holy spirit John 7:38

38He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water.

Earlier, the people murmured for water Numbers 20v1-4

1Then came the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, into the desert of Zin in the first month: and the people abode in Kadesh; and Miriam died there, and was buried there.

2And there was no water for the congregation: and they gathered themselves together against Moses and against Aaron.

3And the people chode with Moses, and spake, saying, Would God that we had died when our brethren died before the LORD!

4And why have ye brought up the congregation of the LORD into this wilderness, that we and our cattle should die there?

Moses in anger (the meekest man on the earth from scripture) struck the rock twice to get water for them for which God was displeased with him and he did not allow Moses to enter the promise land:

Num 20:7-13

7And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying,

8Take the rod, and gather thou the assembly together, thou, and Aaron thy brother, and speak ye unto the rock before their eyes; and it shall give forth his water, and thou shalt

bring forth to them water out of the rock: so thou shalt give the congregation and their beasts drink.

9And Moses took the rod from before the LORD, as he commanded him.

10And Moses and Aaron gathered the congregation together before the rock, and he said unto them, Hear now, ye rebels; must we fetch you water out of this rock?

11And Moses lifted up his hand, and with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also.

12And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron, Because ye believed me not, to sanctify me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore ye shall not bring this congregation into the land which I have given them.

13This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.

Moses unbelief was what he was punished for. Its like the best athlete in a relay race not allowed to see the finish line or a general seconding his duty in a marathon battle and recalled to base early.

Moses was not ‘forgiven’ because water represents the Holy Spirit

Jesus describing sin against the Holy Spirit says

Mark 3:29

29But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.

Moses was in danger of eternal damnation. Michael the archangel had to wrestle for his soul and told him the Lord rebuked thee.

Jude 1: 9

9Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

So it is with us today God is displeased with anyone who grieves the Holy Spirit. Eph 4:30

30And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption.

Prayer Points

1.     Lord Jesus, I look unto you. Thank you for making me to pass from death to life in Jesus Name.

2.     Satan, there is no controversy. Jesus is Lord. Everyone you are holding captive. I command you to release them from the bondage of sin. I break the yoke you have put on them in Jesus Name.

FOUNTAIN OF EVERLASTING LIFE

[Living Bread Nugget 0616]

REVELATIONS 22: 1-2 [KJV]

1   And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb.

2  In the midst of the street of it, and on either side of the river, was there the tree of life, which bare twelve manner of fruits, and yielded her fruit every month: and the leaves of the tree were for the healing of the nations.

Jesus promised that anyone who comes to him and believes in him on earth, out of that person’s belly (inner heart) shall flow rivers of living water. This represents the Holy Spirit in the life of a believer. The Holy Spirit rejuvenate and revives a spiritually dead man back to life on earth [John 7:38-39].

In Heaven, a child of God has free access to the Holy Spirit. No more sin, no more curse, no more sickness; nothing to hinder the flow of the Holy Spirit in the everlasting life of the believer. Wouldn’t that be refreshing and amazing? Ask for the infilling of the Holy Spirit and begin to enjoy a measure of his powerful presence in your life today.

Prayer Point

1.           Oh Lord let your Living water flow over my soul. Every situation that has troubled my heart be rolled away in Jesus Name.

2.                Come Holy Spirit; come in your power; I need your presence; revive my heart and revive your church today in Jesus Name.

Upward looking

Author: Esther Agbi

Bible Nugget 0606 [Colossians 3:2, KJV]

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2. Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth.

God wants us to be focused on things above. The question now arises. What are those things above? This same passage tells us Christ is above, making intersession for you and me. We also know that God is above. He is sitting on his throne and the earth is his foot stool. The angelic host and the 24 elders are worshiping the most high day in day out.

Some of the definitions of the word “set” are to adjust, lay or stand in a certain position, make or become permanent.

As we begin to worship God right here on earth, we are positioning our selves for eternity, which will become permanent in due time. The love of God wells up in us and we continue to increase in our heavenly treasures. No little wonder the scripture says where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Let us as Christians risen with him continue to love what God loves and despise what He hates. The Holy Spirit will help us to adjust our lives to please Him as our aspirations, hope and our mental disposition is upward looking.

In the same manner, when Jesus ascended into heaven, the disciples set their gaze towards heaven until the angels of God came to them and said, this same Jesus shall return in the same manner as you see him go.

I pray that the lord will not only allow us to be looking upward physically, but spiritually

also, until his coming in Jesus name. Amen.

Prayer Points 0606

  1. Lord, any cataract preventing me, from seeing you clearly, blot out from my way by your power.
  2. Father, make my affections to be in line with yours, in Jesus name. Amen
