COMMANDED BLESSINGS (I)

Scripture Reading: [Deut 28: 8]

The LORD shall command the blessing upon thee in thy storehouses, and in all that thou settest thine hand unto; and he shall bless thee in the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

God’s blessing brings increase not decrease. The above verse summarizes a special type of uncommon blessing. God is good and benevolent to everyone having breath of life on the earth. That is why for example, the sun shines on both the righteous and the unrighteous. He also pours out his blessing because of his steadfast love and mercy, which he renews on the righteous everyday (Lam 3:22-23). Today we will look into commanded blessings and our anchor verse will be Deut 28:8.  Commanded blessings will be enjoyed by anyone who is aware of such a special type of blessing and diligently obeys the word of God. What does the word ‘command’ and ‘blessing’ mean?

‘Command’ means to have dominion, authority and power.  When we say the commander of a battalion for example, we know he has authority and power over his troops.  From the above scripture it is clear that the person issuing the command is God Himself who has total control over all things in heaven and on the earth. Everybody and everything. It is only what he says that stands. For example he established the earth by a changeless decree, as the hymn writer rightly captions.

‘Blessing’ in the scripture means gift from God due to his grace.

Commanded blessing comes from obedience (Deut 28). We can link the following to commanded blessings:

1.                  Divine Health: Ex 15:26

And said, If thou wilt diligently hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, and wilt do that which is right in his sight, and wilt give ear to his commandments, and keep all his statutes, I will put none of these diseases upon thee, which I have brought upon the Egyptians: for I am the LORD that healeth thee.

 2.         Longevity: Ex 20:12

Honour thy father and thy mother: that thy days may be long upon the land which the LORD thy God giveth thee.

3.                  Gift of children: Psalm 127:3

Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his reward.

4.         Divine Prosperity: Mal 3: 11, a blessing for tithes and offerings to God.

11And I will rebuke the devourer for your sakes, and he shall not destroy the fruits of your ground; neither shall your vine cast her fruit before the time in the field, saith the LORD of hosts.

Now that we know what commanded blessings mean, we will look into it in more details later.

Prayer Points

1.    Oh Lord, command your blessings on my life. Let me enjoy your special blessings in Jesus Name.

2.      LORD, open your windows of heaven and rain down your blessings upon my life in Jesus Name. Amen.

FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT SERIES: PERFECT PEACE (I)

Bible NUGGET 0608 [ISAIAH 26:3-4, KJV]

3Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace, whose mind is stayed on thee: because he trusteth in thee.

4Trust ye in the LORD for ever: for in the LORD JEHOVAH is everlasting strength:

Our God is a God of peace. Peace is a fruit of the Spirit that keeps our heart steady even in the midst of turbulence all around. When Jesus was in the midst of a storm on the sea, the bible says he was asleep. His disciples came to wake him up and exclaimed “master, do you not care that we are about to perish. Jesus simply got up, went to the side of the boat addressed the storm and said, peace be still.  Mark 4:37-39

37And there arose a great storm of wind, and the waves beat into the ship, so that it was now full.

38And he was in the hinder part of the ship, asleep on a pillow: and they awake him, and say unto him, Master, carest thou not that we perish?

39And he arose, and rebuked the wind, and said unto the sea, Peace, be still. And the wind ceased, and there was a great calm.

You need to tell your soul from time to time peace be still, because a time will come when the enemy will stir you up and gauge the level of peace in the inside of you.  The Psalmist, David encouraged himself when he was downcast by reassuring his soul to hope and trust in the LORD. You can self-talk words of peace to yourself too like the Psalmist did. Ask yourself (your inner man) the same question and reassure your soul to hope in God. You will begin to enjoy his peace, joy and your life will become full of spiritual vitality.

Psalm 42:5

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted in me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him for the help of his countenance.

And in Psalm 42:11.

Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.

Note that the Psalmist had to reassure himself twice in the same breath (chapter) to hope in God, and while waiting to continue a life of praise.

The opposite of peace of course is fear, and fear is of the devil. He also raises doubt in the heart of a man and wants you to doubt God’s word and your abilities. We are told to give no place to Satan because he is a master deceiver. It was the devil that deceived eve in the Garden of Eden and Man fell, lost the glory of God and became subject to the Law of sin and death. It was also the devil that filled the heart of Judas Iscariot to betray Jesus. Thank God because the death of Jesus was not in vain. He resurrected from the grave. And Jesus while on his earthly Ministry said my peace I leave with you. God wants you to triumph and enjoy his peace in all spheres of your life.

His word says,

and the God of peace shall bruise Satan under your feet shortly [Rom 16:20, KJV].

The amplified version makes it clear in case you did not catch the word bruise. It says:

20And the God of peace will soon crush Satan under your feet. [Rom 16:20, KJV].

Is that not reassuring? God will take the responsibility for doing the crushing of Satan, not me or you, nor your parents or pastor. So relax, put your absolute faith in the LORD and you will surely see the salvation of God as he proves himself mighty on your behalf.

Prayer Points 0608

  1. Oh Lord, thank you for your peace. I proclaim peace over every situation in my life in Jesus Name.
  2. Father Lord, fulfill your word in my life. Let your covenant of peace be my portion in Jesus Name.
  3. I command every plan of the enemy concerning me to be ship wrecked. Satan you belong under my feet. Continue to remain under my feet as God crushes all your works in my life in Jesus Name.
  4. Say with all energy you have within your inside seven times: “You my soul: I say hope in the LORD and see the salvation of God in the mighty Name of Jesus”. Amen.

GOD’S GLORY MUST SHOW

Author: Esther Agbi

Bible Nugget 0607 [Isaiah 40:5, KJV]

And the glory of the Lord shall be revealed, and all flesh shall see it altogether, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken it.

Glory is something that is to be desired by everyone, no matter your status in society. Glory can be described as something that brings honor, renowned fame, magnificence and great beauty (Canadian oxford dictionary). Some people have children, homes or objects that bring glory to them. This reminds me of a co-worker who, during Christmas period drives a long way just to see a house adorned with beautiful Christmas lights, before coming to work. It gives her joy, she said. Glory definitely brings joy.

King Solomon must have been so proud and joyful when people came from all over just to see his magnificence. When queen of Sheba had seen all Solomon’s wisdom, and the house that he has built,…..there was no more spirit in her. [1 king 10 v 5]

Glory cannot be fully described. The queen of Sheba attested to it. She said, of king Solomon, not half of what I see was told me: thy wisdom and prosperity exceeds the fame which I heard [1King 10 v7]. If man’s glory is so breath-taking, how much more the glory of the Father. Something that is glorious can not be hidden. It must show. People must talk about it far and wide.

When Moses came down from the mountain, after God gave him the Ten Commandments, The people could not look at him because his face was radiating the glory of God. Moses spent time with God, his presence robbed off on Moses.

The disciples spent time with Jesus all through his ministry on earth, and his presence robbed off on them. The more time we spend with God, the more his presence and glory will reflect in our lives. The lord shall beautify your life with his glory and beauty in Jesus Name.

Prayer Points 0607

  1. Help me Lord to release myself unto the Holy Spirit that your glory may rob off on me.
  2. Let your glory on my life speak on it’s own accord in Jesus Name.

Upward looking

Author: Esther Agbi

Bible Nugget 0606 [Colossians 3:2, KJV]

If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2. Set your affections on things above, not on things on the earth.

God wants us to be focused on things above. The question now arises. What are those things above? This same passage tells us Christ is above, making intersession for you and me. We also know that God is above. He is sitting on his throne and the earth is his foot stool. The angelic host and the 24 elders are worshiping the most high day in day out.

Some of the definitions of the word “set” are to adjust, lay or stand in a certain position, make or become permanent.

As we begin to worship God right here on earth, we are positioning our selves for eternity, which will become permanent in due time. The love of God wells up in us and we continue to increase in our heavenly treasures. No little wonder the scripture says where your treasure is, there your heart will be also. Let us as Christians risen with him continue to love what God loves and despise what He hates. The Holy Spirit will help us to adjust our lives to please Him as our aspirations, hope and our mental disposition is upward looking.

In the same manner, when Jesus ascended into heaven, the disciples set their gaze towards heaven until the angels of God came to them and said, this same Jesus shall return in the same manner as you see him go.

I pray that the lord will not only allow us to be looking upward physically, but spiritually

also, until his coming in Jesus name. Amen.

Prayer Points 0606

  1. Lord, any cataract preventing me, from seeing you clearly, blot out from my way by your power.
  2. Father, make my affections to be in line with yours, in Jesus name. Amen

God’s Blessings on the Head of the Righteous

Bible Nugget 0605 [psalm 92:12-15 NKJV]

12 The righteous shall flourish like a palm tree,
He shall grow like a cedar in Lebanon.
13 Those who are planted in the house of the LORD
Shall flourish in the courts of our God.
 14 They shall still bear fruit in old age;
They shall be fresh and flourishing,
 15 To declare that the LORD is upright;
He is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in Him.

The desire of God is to glorify his children and distinguish them from the heathen. The heathen do not know God and therefore any prosperity they seem to have is ephemeral. It is short-lived. It is the memory or remembrance of the righteous that is blessed. Not the memory of the wicked. The above psalm  powerfully reminds us that we are blessed. Blessed beyond measure. As a tree of the LORD planted by the riverside we continue to flourish even though there is famine and drought all around us. Your are a trees of righteousness.  Even if things appear not to be working hang on to God and he will distinguish you. You will spring forth because God will take the Glory when you are blessed. The palm tree planted by the water has an inexhaustible source of water to keep its sap full. And a cedar tree will survive against all odds and adverse weather conditions. God’s blessings are upon your head and he will distinguish you in due time.

Isaiah 61:3

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.

Prayer Nugget 0605

1.   Lord thank you for planting my feet on the Rock to stay. Thank you because my life will continue to flourish as I stay under your mighty protective arms in Jesus Name.

2.   I am like a big oak tree in Jesus Name. I draw my spiritual nutrients from the inexhaustible nutrient of the Almighty God in Jesus Name. Amen.

MAXIMUM DAMAGE

Bible Nugget 0604 [2 Corinthians 10:3-6]

3For though we walk in the flesh, we do not war after the flesh:

4(For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds;)

 5Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;

6And having in a readiness to revenge all disobedience, when your obedience is fulfilled.

Spiritual warfare is a battle every Christian is enlisted into whether he wants to or not. Once you have decided for Christ, you automatically become a soldier for Christ and the opponent is Satan who opposes everything good. The bible says be strong in the grace of God as a good soldier of Jesus Christ. The comparison would be physical warfare. In warfare, a soldier better be ready or the enemy could be lurking around to strike and inflict maximum damage. Similarly, the contestants in a wrestling match often looks at the legs because they know if they can grab one of them and pull it,  the opponent will be out-of-balance and the winner will score a pin fall.

One of the strategies in warfare is to know your opponent and how powerful they are. The Bible says our wrestling is not with flesh and blood but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of darkness and against spiritual wickedness in high places. All the hierarchy of the kingdom of darkness is headed by one commander, Satan himself.

Another strategy is to know what your own weapons are and which arsenal will inflict maximum damage on the enemy. Yet another strategy is to know who you are as a believer. Today we will look at some very potent spiritual weapons to go with the strategies. The first weapon is Thanksgiving and praise. Thanksgiving and praise are weapons of spiritual warfare energized by God to do maximum damage to the kingdom of darkness.  One of the reasons thanksgiving and praise is effective is that the enemy does not understand the angle you are coming from. He thinks he has caged you and probably defeated you. Instead when he sees you praising God he gives up because he says this is too hot for me to handle.  Praise strengthens your faith. Instead of fear and doubt, you fill your spirit-man with confidence that God is handling your situation for you. Praising God also transforms the spiritual environment that we have. Praising God makes God happy that you remember that he is the ruler and general over all creation.

The Name of Jesus is another weapon. However powerful the enemy thinks he is there is a greater power. After the death and resurrection of Jesus, before his ascension Jesus said all power in heaven and on earth has been given unto me (Jesus). It means there was a battle. Those 3 days when he was in the belly of the earth were 3 days of wrestling with the kingdom of darkness.  He triumphed over the kingdom of darkness in that battle, the greatest battle of the ages. Now the devil fakes around carrying himself as a force to be reckoned with to the unwary. Jesus has given us the weapons to put the enemy where he belongs. The word of God is that potent weapon. Jesus used it to silence the devil when he came tempting him (Jesus) after his 40 days prayer and fasting. The enemy prefers to come when he thinks you are most vulnerable either physically or spiritually. Jesus was sharp in the spirit and quoted scriptures to the enemy when he came from 3 different angles of temptation.

After resurrection, Jesus said in my Name, you shall cast out devils; the sick shall recover when we pray in his Name. The Name of Jesus is our ensign of authority.  Therefore its not right for you to walk around like a defeated foe. Use the Name of Jesus to force the enemy to surrender in all your spiritual battles.

Prayer Points 0604

1.    Oh Lord, I recognize your power. You are Jehovah Elohim, Jehovah Nissi, Jehovah Shammah, and  Jehovah Shalom. Let my heart be filled with thanksgiving to you and my lips with praise in Jesus Name.

2.    I over come the enemy in every battle. I give the enemy a pin fall in every challenge in the Mighty Name of Jesus.

3.   I receive divine strength, I receive divine power. I receive divine ability. I am triumphant in all areas of my life in Jesus Name. Satan you cannot tamper with my blessings in Jesus name

4.   I command the enemy to stay under my feet. All your powers and all your forces, I command them to bow and surrender to me in the mighty Name of Jesus.
