The Wise Heart
23Keep thy heart with all diligence; for out of it are the issues of life. Proverbs 4:23 [KJV]
26A new heart also will I give you, and a new spirit will I put within you: and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you an heart of flesh. 27And I will put my spirit within you, and cause you to walk in my statutes, and ye shall keep my judgments, and do them. [Ezekiel 36:26-27]
The heart is the engine that generates life to the body. It is the strong room where the armouries of battle to keep you going are distributed to your body. The heart is also the funnel through which God speaks to us by his Holy Spirit. In other words, the tenderness of the heart to the Holy Spirit determines its state of health. Is your heart diseased spiritually, filled with all sorts of evil? Be tenderhearted Ephesians 4:32. Nathaniel was a disciple in whose spirit Jesus testified had no guile (no falsehood or pretence or hypocrisy). He was simply himself – no complexities John 1:47.
A fleshy heart is sensitive to the Spirit of God while a stony heart is insensitive. When we are born again, our spirit is renewed, the stony and natural heart is removed for a more sensitive heart [Ezekiel 11:19; 2 Corinthians 5:17] . Impurities reduce the strength of a metal. So is the heart when it is alienated from the life of God. Let the word of God rule you on all sides. Where soldiers keep their armoury is normally heavily guarded. Keep your heart guarded because it is the source of life to all other members of the body -the brain, hands, foot, eyes, etc. If the heart begins to fail, then life begins to fail or ebb away. If the heart is full of vitality, so will all members of the body. Athletes and everyone puts in their best physically to keep themselves going. It is good because the word of God says it profits, howbeit little compared to spiritual exercise which profits in all things. You guard your heart by having rule over your spirit [Proverbs 16:32]. How do you do this? By the word of God, that is you control what enters and goes out of your spirit by the word of God. Indeed nothing should gain access to our spirit except it has been filtered by the word of God. The heart is the seat of wisdom that controls other parts of the body to act in line with wisdom. So keep your heart with all diligence and see the wisdom of God multiply in your life.
PRAYER OF FAITH
1. Oh lord, I submit my heart to you. Let it be a citadel of faith in your word and love for you in Jesus Name.
2. I receive from you a new heart and a new spirit. Renew my heart and purify it with your fire in Jesus Name.
3. You my heart, receive the vitality that the word of God gives. Keep going and going and never fail in obedience to the word of God in Jesus Name.
