Is Milk a Necessity for Children?

Wednesday, March 20, 2019 by Joseph Agbi Leave a Comment

1 Peter 2:1-3 (AKJV)

1 Wherefore laying aside all malice, and all guile, and hypocrisies, and envies, and all evil speaking’s, 2 as newborn babes, desire the sincere milk of the word, that ye may grow thereby: 3 if so be ye have tasted that the Lord is gracious.

I would say everyone living today was once a child. No one was born an adult. Well, Adam and his wife Eve, from bible records were made as full-grown man and woman.

Since we were all children at one time or the other, there was need for us to drink milk.

I have never heard of anyone who said that he is a father to God, or brother or sister to God, or even god-father to God. Everyone who is a Christian is only a child of God irrespective of age, race or gender.

 What is milk to children?

Milk is sustenance to children. Milk is their food and it keeps them alive and growing. Children have this natural desire and instinct to drink milk. They cry for it and the parent recognizes the fact that they are hungry and takes care of that need. I also know that children cry for different needs, but the most important of all is for food, and thereby sustenance.

Our milk as children of God is the word of God. Do I have that desire for God’s word? Do you have that desire for God’s word? Do you see God’s words as sustenance for your life?

Milk is like the manna God gave to the children of Israel as they journeyed through the wilderness to the Promised Land. They were sustained by God.

As we eat physical food to sustain our physical bodies, we also need spiritual food for our spiritual growth and sustenance.

When we starve our spiritual being, we are going to suffer from spiritual kwashiorkor. We would know very little about our father God and have less of His virtues.

How do we drink the milk of His word?

Jesus said’ man shall not live by bread alone but by every word that proceeds from his mouth’.

We obtain the milk of God’s word by going to our Father. Open his word he has given to us, the bible and allow the Spirit of God to direct you and illuminate scriptures to you as you study.

 Excuses

Do we have excuses of no time or we are too busy with other affairs of life? Let us not be like the rich fool in the bible who said he wanted to break down barns and build bigger barns, and yet not rich towards God. We should realize that all we have and all we are belongs to him. So my friend, take time out of your busy schedule and have an alone time with your father, God, who is the creator of the heavens and the earth.

God bless you.
